Kakopathar, Assam, India: In this picture taken on Thursday, April 7, 2011, Heera Sarania (in middle, wearing camouflage), the commander of main rebel group in India's troubled northeast, the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) (now on ceasefire) is seen during a ceremony to mark their 32nd raising day in Kakopathar in Tinsukia district, Assam, India. Once a dreaded Ulfa militant, Heera Sarania is now eyeing entering Parliament. The Obodo Suraksha Samiti (OSS), a non-Bodo organization based in Bodoland Territorial Autonomous Area districts (BTAD), has decided to field Sarania as a candidate from the Kokrajhar Lok Sabha constituency in the coming polls. Heera Sarania, 48, was the commander of Ulfa's 709 battalion. He hails from Dighalipaar village in Tamulpur police limits of Assam's Baksa district. Baksa district also falls under BTAD. The rebels have fought for an independent homeland for ethnic Assamese people in India's northeast for the past two decades. Photo Credit: Indian Photo Agency (InPA)
