Rural Development Minister Jairam Ramesh handed over the Rs 5 lakh Sulabh Sanitation Award to Indian woman Anita Narre (Anita Bai Narre) of Chichouli village of tribal dominated Betul district in New Delhi on March 19, 2012. Narre was rewarded for her "bold" decision to leave her marital home within days of her wedding to protest against the lack of a toilet in the household.
